Some Sense of Hope
by Kọ́lá Túbọ̀sún
I spent January 20th in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, in the company of other writers and artists gathered to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The event was organised by the Eastside Freedom Library and Art@Payne, an art centre.
There were readings and community, a welcome respite from the other depressing news connected with the country’s chaotic politics. The temperature was frigid, so the warmth of being around fellow writers and artists brought some sense of calm and hope, in the spirit of the departed civil rights leader. On display around us there were quilts and fabric arts by local artists, including Túndé Ọdúnladé, whose ongoing exhibition opened in November.
