Annalee Newitz: You wrote about how the movie is scary and I wrote about how it’s not scary, so maybe we can talk about that? There is one part of the movie I do think is scary/upsetting, which is that they kill all those nice sheep and other cute animals with the cop. What do you think is the scariest part?

Tal Lavin: I remember the first time I saw it I could not *believe* the ending.

Annalee Newitz: Honestly I had misremembered the ending, and thought somehow he escaped.

TL: Even though it was so telegraphed, you always expect the hero to escape. Or fate to intervene. But no, he burns to death and the camera pans to the impersonal sea.

AN: He meets the ending that the villain does in a typical horror flick.

TL: Honestly I was like SHOCKED and appalled.

AN: Haha how old were you when you first saw it?
